Part 1 set the groundwork for eliminating those calls that disturb your dinner and fill your answering machine, by registering your numbers on the DoNotCall listing. www.donotcall.gov Along with this recently-created and powerful tool courtesy of the FTC, there are also internal DoNotCall lists that are kept by each marketing firm. Maintaining this internal DNC list is a requirement within the National DNC Registry's code, in order to be in compliance with the federal government's new legislation. When contacted by a telemarketer, you should request that you be placed on their own DoNotCall list. Your number should appear within 30 days of your request, and all calls from that company will cease. (in theory) Your state could also maintain it's own policy regarding telemarketers, and set further restrictions. Contact you States Attorney's office of Consumer Affairs for further details on local telemarketing laws.
