Catchy jingles and handsome curly-haired frontman aside...the truth is, they're selling some crappy membership that you would never otherwise buy... Wait...it gets even better: Not long ago the feds passed legislation that allows every American citizen to collect and view their credit report from each of the Big 3: Equifax, Experian, and Transunion...for free. This is precisely why and when the scammers started bombarding us with non-stop ads for a "Free" credit report...when in fact, the only thing you get for free is the report you are already entitled to...but only when you subscribe to their useless membership sites...and then they will tell you where the free website is to collect your free annual credit report. The feds didn't advertise this new legislation...and the scammers are counting on your continued ignorance to push websites full of useless, out-dated advice in exchange for enlightening you. Once annually, you can go to: AnnualCreditReport.com and collect (view and print, if desired) a free copy of your credit report from each of the major bureaus, in just a few minutes. This website was created as a direct result of the newly-created FACT act, and became operational on 12/01/2004 *You can also request a free copy by phone or by mail...be prepared to verify your identity...by mail, this means a copy of your SS card, drivers license, and/or state ID.
