Who hasn't seen this and similar headlines in their mailbox? How about your inbox?
Contests and sweepstakes are, in no uncertain terms, a marketing tool.
This is NOT an extension of that old TV series, "The Millionaire". (For those of you too young to remember, the series was based on some eccentric rich man who popped into stranger's homes to give away money.)
Sweepstakes are not based on the benevolence of a wealthy family or corporation...They secure their tax-cuts and shelters through scholarship foundations and national charities.
Sweepstakes are based on database manipulation by marketing firms. Publisher's Clearinghouse (The nation's largest scammer in this field) does NOT sell magazines...They do not publish anything other than a database listing.
This is because PCH is nothing more than a database company. That's all they have, and they only do ONE thing: Direct Marketing...It's been paying the bills at PCH for decades, and it's their only business.
The primary job of PCH is to trick as many people as possible into buying whatever PCH is currently pushing for their clients...The primary product is and has been magazines, simply because this product offers a large profit margin for the marketing company, namely Publisher's Clearinghouse.
Sweepstakes and contests are a very powerful marketing tool because...Let's face it: It's the Only reason you would even open the envelope.
