Sure, this is the information age...and information is the foundation on which the Web was built...but Personal information:
Where do we draw the line?
What the hell is with these hundreds of new website owners playing Hungry Hungry Hippos with our email addresses?
Suddenly, every other new website is pushing for "Name & email" to look at their page, or view their sales pitch...
Seriously Guys; If your pages and the business within won't sell me, where do you get the idea that putting me on a mailing list I don't want to be on, and dumping dozens of wordy sales letters into my personal inbox is gonna' do the job?
Doesn't anybody practice the KISS* principle of marketing anymore?
*Keep It Simple, Stupid
The moment i see one of those velvet-roped sites (no entry without giving-up your personal info), I dump the window and move on.
HEY: You need us to come in a hell of a lot more than we need to see your offer.
I haven't even seen your site yet, and you really think I'm gonna hand over the address that I protect from spammers as the price of admission?
How arrogantly self-important is that?
There are Billions of free websites, and more like yours than I've got time to visit...Charging us our personal information as the price of admission is beyond stupid.
Show me, tease me, sell me...but don't insult me.
My email is tradeable for freebies of value. Free autoresponders, stats, and the like...We know that a few emails is the price of "Free" on the web,but...
You are Not welcomed to it. Period.
Show me your pages, and ask me to volunteer it if you like...force doesn't work.
If we all practice this policy, they may eventually get the point and move to more ethical methods of building a legitimate personal mailing list.
