Although they're fairly new on the Web, their concept is not; They pay you a percentage of revenue to read occasional emails from business willing to pay them for this service. This form of Eyeball Rental isn't really new: There was a flood of "Paid-2-read" programs around 1999, which followed the earlier wave of "Paid-2-surf" programs that also proved to be a flash-in-the-pan. Most of each type have simply crumbled away. Now that the dust has settled however, I found a strong survivor called Inbox Dollars. Part of the reason for their strength is in the fact that they don't insult members with nickles and pennies; They pay $2. per email, and they actually Do payoff. *(disclosure: They pay for referrals also, and the links here are referral links. I will Not however, trade my reputation for 20 cents...) The drawback: Advertisers have lost faith in most PTR programs due to all the recent HTGT** operators, so for now, you won't see enough emails to quit your day-job...but a few bucks now & then is pretty cool. Inbox Dollars will send no more than a few emails a week, so you won't pay bills with the income...but as "mad money', it's as simple and fair as they come. - - - - - - - - - Update: - - - - - - - - Now that the smoke has cleared in the PTR Email field, a few newcomers have bumped ReadPay from my Top-5 list; Among those being tested as of this posting are HugeMails www.huge-mails.com/pages/index.php?refid=popsgifts and 500-500 www.500cents-500dollars.net/pages/index.php?refid=popsgifts as well as 100dollars www.100dolarsmail.com/pages/index.php?refid=popsgifts You can follow the progress on the "Under Review" board...and bear in mind; These new sites have NOT yet been verified as Legit, and their links are on this board for informational purposes only. As always, your comments and experiences are welcome. Thanx for your time, JB. **HTGT=Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

I can make that better:
Zwallet.com is another survivor of the PTR squeeze-out, and if you use your zwallet address for this PaidToRead program, You get paid Twice for each email. Not too shabby, huh?
ZWallet.com email addresses are free, and they send a few emails of their own that pay.
I use some PtRs because, to be honest, after clearing my promo-inbox of 300 or more pieces of junk, it's a little depressing to find there's nothing left for me. Makes me feel i'm accomplishing something besides being a spam-cleaning machine.
->Admin Note: Many PTR programs are blocking zwallet emails due to their high dropout rate...but the idea is a good one.

I hsvr to admit: The PaidtoRead programs are a thorn in my side somewhat.
A few years ago, I joined a newcomer to the PTR group called Nitroclicks. The program had a few fat pluses that I couldn't resist, such as; They paid $200. into my "account" to signup. (Payout began at $500: Talk about missing a Clue!)
They sent a list of links to your email each day, and you chose the programs/sites that you were interested in to click on... and each click/view paid from 50 cents to $5.00 (the real money was in signing up for mailinglists and other biz-opp freebies).
The site was well designed, and written in Perl...so it didn't appear to be a typical FBN.
I liked the program so much, i started a marketing campaign around it and pulled in 79 members...Who all got dragged through the mud with me when the site disappeared, along with all the earnings in our accounts!
I'm not too irritated about the money (though $450. isn't exactly pocket-change), but I'm deeply angered at having wasted so much un-recoverable Time on them...and the cherry-on-top is all those trusting people who took my word for the site's value, only to get kicked in the A$$ by these scammers. And who do you think they had left to vent their frustration on..?
That wasn't my first PTR program, but it was the first (and Last) that I promoted to others.
Summary; Don't expect my immediate endorsement of any PTR program. I'll run it for a while; After a few deposits are secured, then we'll decide if they're Gonna Grow or be a No Show.
Thanx for your time, JB

I had 1500+ refferals in my first generation and 100 in my second with Zwallet and it said I made less than ten dollars but I couldn't cash in because I needed $25 minimum to be issued a check.Never had any kind of support contact either from Zwallet. It would be nice to hear from Zwallet. Maybe Readpay can renew faith with online marketers with GPTRE. There are a lot of them out there and even a forum that works rather well for it too. There is a brand new website that's GPTRE and lottery venue with a Scum, Scam, and Spam FREE policiy. They just launched New Year's 2004. Excelent customer support with a lot of contact. You can read about their Press Release here: www.prweb.com/releases/2003/12/prweb95960.php I actually came across this site by using the search engine from the website featured in that press release.

There are many new PTR email programs popping up now, and most are strong in both membership and support. They mostly pay a few cents per email, but they do pay...the real money is in referrals, but you won't quit your day job for PTR unless you start your own. Tried both ReadPay and zwallet: not too pleased with either one. Zwallet sends maybe 3 emails a month for pay, but the inbox is OK. ReadPay is way too slow, but like Pop said, a few extra bucks is cool. Your best bet for making a few easy bucks is one of the auto-surf investment sites. The largest and most (proven) reliable is StudioTraffic www.studiotraffic.com/index.php?refid=10496 You get a free $10 to start you off, and each day that you let the window stay open for 100 sites (at 20 seconds each), you earn 1% of your deposit to your account. Accounts can be withdrawn, but deposits can't. This protects them from people just joining, and taking the free $10...but you have to be very short-sighted to do that cuz the potential for easy income is very real. www.studiotraffic.com/index.php?refid=10496 Join Studio NOW. You can't miss with this...and forget those PTR promises that never work out.

ReadPay.com is reminiscent of the original PTRs that hit the Web so strong in the mid-90s. and one of the first to attempt to revive the industry this time around. Starting in mid-03, a new breed of re-designed PTRs started "testing the water", fishing for advertiser dollars. Most have found what they need, and make enough to survive...while others are committing financial suicide trying to undercut their competitors' ad prices. There are hundreds of new PTR programs swarming online every month now, and for the most part they are canabalizing each other. New advertiser dollars are hard to come by, so the majority of their revenue comes from other PTRs. Pop is testing a handful of the most popular and interesting programs, and the results are being posted on these boards. The testing will consist of two divisions: Reliability and honesty from the end-user's perspective...and from an advertiser's viewpoint, the actual effectiveness of this affordable form of reaching prospects. View the progress and results on the Testing boards here: scamalert.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=Testing Regular updates will follow.

Has anyone actually got any money off ReadPay? I have just received a letter saying I will forfeit my funds owing to me if I don't claim them within a month. I have $13618 showing in my account, and have asked for payout on many occations, only to not hear anything back.

Readpay is* a valid UK-based company, and Yes; They've paid many members.
I can see how your Catch-22 situation would frustrate you... and at the same time, a 5-digit payout will worry the Admin of Readpay.
This sounds like a simple "Left hand-Right hand" screw-up, but good people tend to fall thru the cracks when these mistakes happen.
Often it helps to involve a third party, especially one with the authority to make the types of decisions that would help to resolve this conflict.
Should you be relying on the provided form input at their site (regrettably, the only contact provided), I've pasted the WhoIs from the public records below so that you can call, write, or fax them a proposition that you feel will satisfy both parties.
Installments over a reasonable period and a time-extension on the acct closure would be a good start... Here's the Admin whois:
Registrant:Readpay (ZTDBJWNLWD) 39 wetherby mansions London, Britain sw59bh UK Domain Name: READPAY.COM Administrative Contact, Technical Contact: Readpay (CBUHJEBKSO) dns@readpay.com 39 wetherby mansions London, Britain sw59bh UK phone: 442072451110 fax: 442072451110 Record expires on 05-Mar-2005. Record created on 05-Mar-2002. Database last updated on 22-Apr-2004 09:08:24 EDT. >end paste
You'll notice that the phone & fax #s are the same... so don't rely on the fax as a primary contact.
This is only a starting point: You can trace the owner(s) as closely as you need to should the need arise...and the amount in question would justify a small investment in a trace.
Hope this helps you get started...Please keep us updated on your progress.
Pop. *(or at least was...the Web is very fluid...)

Update: 04/19/2012
The Paid-To-Read wave has passed by now, and most of the mentioned domains have converted to search hooks at this point. InboxDollars is one of the few still standing.
